News Flash – Barrel Scraped Through

While I’m only an occasional reader of The Guardian, I’ve had this piece of comedy gold pointed out to me recently.

It’s a little dry in the early going, but I tell you this: chew on every word, savor them, because it makes it all the more worthwhile when you get to the part that says

The second-in-command at the information ministry, who spent his days reading the reports the minders wrote about visiting foreign journalists, has been employed by Fox News.

I guess if you’re going to mislead the public, you might as well have somebody on the team who can hit it over the fence. Because, after all, the great masses of the people will more easily fall victims to a great lie than to a small one.

Ok, those last two lines, assuming you recognize the quotes, were skirting the edge of Godwin’s Law. But take a look at this article by Umberto Eco and tell me that some of it doesn’t seem familiar.
